Led Zeppelin Charts A Debut Top 10 Hit, Decades After The Band’s Split

A little more than 50 years ago, Led Zeppelin released its sixth album, Physical Graffiti. 2025 has been about celebrating that project for the group and its many, many fans, and before 2026 rolls around, there is one more way to honor the title.

“Trampled Under Foot,” the sole single pushed from Physical Graffiti, was recently reissued on vinyl for Record Store Day. English listeners turned it into not only a hit, but a top 10 smash across a variety of tallies, five decades after its initial release.

“Trampled Under Foot” Debuts on Multiple Charts

“Trampled Under Foot” reaches three purchase-only rosters in the U.K. for the first time this frame. The Led Zeppelin cut launches at No. 6 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts. The tune narrowly breaks into the uppermost tier on the Official Singles Sales list, where it begins its time at No. 10.

Led Zeppelin Earns Its First Top 10 Hit

Led Zeppelin reaches the top 10 for the very first time on the Official Singles Sales chart — the list of the bestselling tracks via any format throughout the U.K. — as “Trampled Under Foot” opens at No. 10. It immediately snags the honor of being the group’s highest-rising win, surpassing “Rock and Roll,” which stalled at No. 24. Led Zeppelin first reached the Official Singles Sales tally in April 2017 with “Immigrant Song,” which only ever rose as high as No. 40.

Led Zeppelin Doubles Its Own Count of Top 10s

Led Zeppelin doubles its total number of appearances on the Official Vinyl Singles chart, which looks only at tunes available for purchase on wax in the U.K. The group has only scored one previous hit, as “Rock and Roll” spent two weeks at No. 1 after launching in mid-2018. The group keeps its record of top 10s perfect as “Trampled Under Foot” starts in sixth place.

Led Zeppelin Scores a Second Top 10 Bestseller

The hard rock outfit claims its second top 10 success on the Official Physical Singles chart, which operates in almost exactly the same manner as the Official Vinyl Singles roster, though cassette and CD sales are also included. “Rock and Roll” spent just one turn at No. 1, and “Trampled Under Foot” gives the group another top 10 win.

“Whole Lotta Love” earned Led Zeppelin its first placement on the Official Physical Singles chart when it debuted almost 30 years ago, in the fall of 1997. That classic in the group’s discography has thus far spent only two frames somewhere on the ranking and has only ever lifted to No. 21.

Led Zeppelin Took Part in Record Store Day 2025

Led Zeppelin was one of dozens of musical acts that took part in Record Store Day 2025, a semiannual event that sees many of the biggest artists in the global music industry releasing special products that will only be available in brick-and-mortar record stores. For Black Friday 2025, a reproduction of the original U.K.-only seven-inch vinyl single of “Trampled Under Foot” was re-released. Side A included the title track, while “Black Country Woman,” which originally served as its B-side, was reprinted on the back.

“Trampled Under Foot” Served as One of Led Zeppelin’s Only Singles

While “Trampled Under Foot” is one of Led Zeppelin’s most famous songs, it has never appeared on the Official Singles chart. The group was largely against the idea of singles, as albums were created as a whole, and the band tried to stick to that format throughout the years. Only three smashes by Led Zeppelin — “Whole Lotta Love,” “Stairway to Heaven,” and “Kashmir” — have reached the Official Singles tally.

“Trampled Under Foot” was a top 40 win on the Hot 100 in America, where it remains one of Led Zeppelin’s highest-peaking tunes.
